Law Enforcement Torch Run
The Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fund-raising event benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. This intrastate relay has two goals: to raise money and increase public awareness for the athletes of Special Olympics. Each year, more than 3,000 officers in Illinois run more than 1,500 miles carrying the Flame of Hope through the streets of their hometowns and deliver it to the State Summer Games in Normal in June.
Polar Plunge
The Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses to support Special Olympics athletes by immersing themselves "en masse" in the sparkling and frigid waters of numerous Illinois lakes. Participants collect pledges from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for jumping into the icy waters. All proceeds collected by plungers benefit Special Olympics Illinois athletes.
Cops-n-Lobsters Program
The Cops-n-Lobsters Program is a program which teams up officers with local Red Lobsters restraunts to raise monies for Special Olympics. Rockford Police Officers change uniforms and play the role as waiter to served customers. A percentage of the cost of each meal is donated to the Special Olympics. The Police Benevolent & Protective Association Unit Six also includes a donation each year to Special Olympics.
Cop-on-Top Program
The Police Benevolent & Protective Association Unit Six is proud to sponsor a program where Rockford Police Officers stand on top of the local Dunkin Donuts to raise monies for Special Olympics. Not only does this program provide lots of laughs, this may be the only time you can say we perpetuate the myth of cops and donut shops. Please look for this program in the future to support the Special Olympics.
MDA Lock-Up
The Police Benevolent & Protection Association Unit Six participates every year in the drive to raise monies for the Muscular Dystrophy Association by assisting the association in the MDA Lock-Up. Rockford Police Officers volunteer their own time to participate in this event by serving MDA Lock-Up warrants and transporting sponsors of the program to a mock jail to raise bond money. All money raised goes to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and their goal to find a cure for this disease. This is a fun event and we hope you experience the chance to get locked-up by MDA.
Hat, Glove and Coat Program
The Police Benevolent & Protection Association Unit Six is blessed to be involved with the Hat, Glove and Coat Program. Since its inception 19 years ago, the Hat, Glove and Coat program has provided over 28,000 hats, gloves, and coats to the children of the Rockford community. Director of the program Steve Allen, expects to deliver over 1600 hats, gloves and coats this year. Steve is a Rockford Police Officer and member of the PB&PA #6.
Charity Flag Football
For the past few years the Police Benevolent & Protective Association Unit Six has been supporting the the Charity Flag Football Game. Teams consist of the Rockford Police, Rockford Fire, Winnebago County Sheriff's Department and the Illinois State Police. It's your local law enforcement super bowl beating the gridiron to determine a champion in the sport of flag football. Proceeds from this event are donated to a different local charity each year. You don't want to miss this event so, look for it in upcoming events.
